Herbs

Oregano - 300 seeds -Origanum heracleoticum. Hardy perennial herb has sweet smelling, aromatic foliage which is commonly used in Mediterranean cuisine. Flowers produced in summer and autumn can also be used for flavouring after they have been gently dried.

Chamomile - 900 seeds -Matricaria recutica - Use flowers in herb tea. Sow in spring or autumn. Press seeds lightly in to the soil. Do not cover the seeds. If sown in seed trays place them in full light

Dill Tetra - 800 seeds -Anethum graveolens - High yield of fresh leaves. Use fresh leaves for salads and fish dishes. The seeds and flower heads can be used for pickling cucumbers or making chutneys, Sow from April when soil has warmed up. Sow seeds 2-3 cm deep in rows 30 cm apart.

Coriander - 350 seeds - Coriandrum sativum - Use leaves and seeds for flavouring salads, curries, pickles and chutney. Sow in spring when soil has warmed up. Sow seeds in rows around 1 cm deep and then cover with soil/compost. Space rows around 35 cm apart. Sow seeds around 4 cm apart.
 Once the seedlings are about 4-5 cm high you can thin them to about 20 cm apart

Parsley Giant Italian - 700 seeds - Petroselinum crispum - Plain leafed parsley with large leaves and strong stalks. Very high yielding, quick and tall growing. Sensitive to bolting in unfavourable conditions. Sow at intervals from spring to late summer in rows 20 cm apart.

Chives Large Leaves - 500 seeds - Allium schoenoprasum. Particularly suitable for forcing in greenhouses. The leaves have a mild onion flavour. The flowers can be used in salads. Direct sow from early spring. Alternatively grow under glass from March to June.

Borage - 50 seeds - Borago officinalis - Leaves and flowers can be used in salads. The flowers are loved by bees. Sowing time April - June. Sow seeds 0.5-1.0cm deep in rows 30cm apart in soil with a fine crumbly surface.

Basil, Small Bush - 400 seeds - Ocimum basilicum var. minimum - Very compact plant ideal for growing in pots. Sow end March - April. Sow seeds in a seed tray, cover with 0.3-0.5cm moist compost. Place in a warm (min 20°c), light place. Transfer seedlings into small pots. Grow the plants on in a warm place and place outside in June or plant in a greenhouse at a spacing of 25x25 cm. Harvest in July by cutting of the top of the main shoot. The plant will produce side shoots for a later harvest.
